Itinerary Description

Locating ourselves on the central square of Pampaneira (Plaza de la Libertad), we start with our walk entering the Antonio Alvarez lane ...

To get the right picture about these whitewashed high mountain villages, you need to know that there are no streets or roads inside of these white villages glued to the slopes. You arrive on a country road that passes beside the village or, sometimes passes through the center, but in those locations there are only tight lanes to be found; designed for horse, mule or donkey traffic.

OK enough - let's start our walk ...

Leaving the village

We leave Pampaneira's square entering in Calle Antonio Alvarez following C/Martin Moral, strolling through C/Federico Garcia Lorca and C/Rodera until we arrive at a place called Era de la Ermita where we follow C/San Miguel to the cemetery, continuing from here to the local sports ground (polideportivo) where we find our first landmark to follow right-handed.

Following here an old track called "Pitres" (don't be confused; there is a village called Pitres at a distance of about 9 km too), you'll arrive the edge of an exemplary Mediterranean natural forest which step by step turns into a reforested mixed area whit lots of endemic trees like oaks (Quercus rotundifolia), and quejigos (faginea Quercus).

Other interesting species are coscoja (cocifera Quercus), torvizco (Dahne gnidium), zarzaparrilla (Smilas spera), majoleto (Crataegus monogyna), aulagas (Ulex palviflorus), giniesta (Retama sphaerocapa) and others accomplishing their bio-climatic function.
